WIC Knitters at Town North
By Sandy KeelanOn the 4th of September Bonnie Wells, Judy Dawson, Fiona Garwood, Diane Watkins, and I delivered 74 knitted dolls to children at Dallas' Scottish Rite Hospital. After knitting weekly since June, it was a privilege to witness two small girls select one doll each from the basket of small faces. Our contact, Mary Rich, kindly showed us another of Scottish Rite's needs - knitted covers for the tops of crutches. At this writing, we expect to fulfill this request with an easy-to-make, professional pattern chosen by Diane Watkins. After stopping to explore the extraordinary children's decorations and the playground, there was lunch and more visiting. Who has more fun than a group of women on a mission, anyway? Another 25 dolls will be divided between a shelter in Plano and the Sunny Glen Children's home in San Benito, Texas.
Plans are underway for the continuation of the group through the winter, so watch for dates and times. This is another opportunity to join a small group - and it is a lively one.
Diane Watkins and Judy Dawson will be overseeing this activity.
Other persons involved in the summer knitting were Kathy Bowman, Dee Ann Beamon, Lisa Davis, Sandy Hotz, Kathy Allen, and Karla Pollock. Karla served as our crocheting specialist while joining in the banter of conversation. The group is still open to knitters or those wanting to learn. Additionally, we are always glad to receive donations of leftover yarn or needles.
